Green at Home

Look around your home! You will be surprised on how much wasted electricity is being used in your home. Most individuals do not even realize this is happening, Some manufacturers are starting to become environmentally green but we have a long way to go. It is our responsibility to be Green At Home.

First thing I want you to do is find your computer and monitor and shut them off. They are one of the biggest unknowns in hidden electrical users in the home. No one really thinks about this but reality time is here, it time to shut it off when you are finished with them.

If you think about this, you probably use the computer a maximum of 1 hour a day. Most people use them strictly to look at their email and do a little surfing. That means the computer is on 23 more additional hours consuming electricity that is not needed. That means you are wasting your hard earned money on nothing but helping to support the electricity company.

First thing your think is, it will go into sleep mode because you're a bit energy conscious already, you put the thing to sleep at night. False, when a computer is put in sleep mode, it still uses up to 77% of its original energy it normally consumes. Turning it off is being Green At Home.

If you have a laptop, using the "hibernate" mode, actually does shut it off, and it consumes no electricity. It also saves the data to the hard drive so when you restart it, you start where you left off. I personally use this mode on my own laptop, it works very well. When you turn it on, it goes back to where you left off.

Most of us do not realize that the power sources in these computers are on the average 250 watt power supplies or more. That means you are burning two 100 watt light bulbs and one 50 watt light bulb at all times. If you have one of the bigger computers, you are even burning more light bulbs. Would you leave extra lights on in your home if you were not there? Wow, the light just went on in your mind. Turning it off is being Green At Home.

Most of us do not think about little things like this. It is the little things that can fool most of us because we don't really see the effect, like we would a light bulb. Remember, every little bit helps save energy consumption in our home. It time to be be Green At Home.

Just by shutting off your computer you will see immediate savings on your electrical bill and save money. According to the Energy Information Administration of the US Government (see website), the average cost per kilowatt hour is $.11. So if you are burning excessive wattage, this can add up quickly. So if you have a computer and a monitor on 24 hours a day, it adds up to approximately $19.00 a month. So you can instantly save approximately $14.00 a month(depending on usage) by simply turning off your computer when not using it.

In conclusion, "Green At Home" is important. Being aware of little things will help you save money on your electrical bill each and every month. When you finish with your computer, shut it off to save money on your electrical bill. Be sure to share this article with your friends so they can all save money and help conserve our resources.
